I’m a Trump supporter and am not racist. Most of us are not. Just as most democrats are not. Trump 2024. I vote by who I believe is qualified for the job . I don’t let gender or race sway my vote.

I totally agree and just wrote about baseball caps, specially the Yankees cap, being a powerful symbol of American optimism and opportunity around the world, and how I’m hopeful that we’re returning to that energy and joy! Love your analysis of the red cap and the camo one, so spot on. Thank you for sharing!

we just put our USA flag out a couple weeks ago with a “cuckoo for coconuts” sign in front of it 🥥 It’s the vibe!

This is wonderful ❣️ funnily enough, I just acquired not one, but two (one gifted), new red baseball hats in the last couple of weeks (to balance out my collection of blue...) and this thought had not even crossed my mind, BUT now I will wear them proudly!! x

We need to take back the American flag from the phony GOP ‘patriots’. What they want is the opposite of true patriotism.

I’ll never forget when I was standing in line for Rockaway taco a few years ago wearing a red hotel logo hat I got as a souvenir on my birthday trip and the group behind me in line were talking so much shit about my hat, I felt obligated to turn around and make sure they saw the logo. I haven’t worn the hat since.

I love this!

Even though I‘m German and would never hang a German flag anywhere, because of… well, history.

Harris/ Walz gives me a lot of hope, not only for the US but for the rest of the world, as well.

I love hearing that my friends/readers outside the US are feeling hopeful and inspired ahead of this election. Reminds me of the Obama days when we couldn't travel anywhere without someone remarking on him!

Love the reclaiming of both the flag and red hats! Also got me thinking that the use of the word “Patriots” could be used for actual…patriots!! Cannot wait to vote this November. The hope that the Harris-Walz ticket has brought us these last few weeks is incredible! 💙🇺🇸

It’s been such an sad thing to watch as the American flag went from this iconic, beautiful symbol with a gorgeous color way to something that would make me cringe.

I lived in Italy for a few years a decade ago and the American flag was quite literally in style, imprinted upon scarves and such. People loved it and I loved seeing it.

I love this revolution to take it back as a point of pride. It’s incredible how different the same piece can look when next to our Golden Girls ✨ versus on the back of a MAGA truck. 🤢

Kamala + the Olympics = a feeling of hope for the first time in the longest time and it feels GOOD!!

Wow—that's wild that it was so en vogue in Italy! Totally with you re: the different feelings the flag can create in different contexts... both make me want to cry in different ways, haha. Feeling really hopeful we can take steps toward bringing kindness and unity back to the flag *and* to America

What a fascinating discussion. As an 🇦🇺 living in Perth I confess I had to Google to find out the meaning of ‘MAGA’ hat!!! 🙄 I love that clever people at BalanceOfPower have come up with the HARRIS WALZ Camo cap. I’ll be watching the upcoming debate with keen interest. I think Kamala and Walz make a great team.

Thank you so much for from reading from Perth! I wondered for a minute if this was a bit to US-centric... so good reminder to be more respectful of what terms my global readers know and don't know. must say I'm kind of hyped for the debate!

I love this reframing, Teresa! I too was moved by the emotion of all the world’s countries coming together peacefully, despite the political climate we live in. Never thought about the flag as part of that, so thank you for this post! 🇺🇸 (And GO Kamala/Walz!!!)

The irony of us taking the American flag back from a group of people who celebrate the confederate flag is astounding.

Love this. Petition for everyone to start wearing red hats with different sayings on them to drown out the maga messaging and de-symbolize the image. Fashion as protest.
